About the Artist

Sherri Dunbar is a fiber artist who interprets fish and fowl, flora and fauna in fabric. Her concern for wildlife conservation and her love of being outdoors is expressed in two series of designs called "Wild Gardens" and "Sea Gardens."

Sherri began her fiber exploration by adapting traditional quilt block patterns to her personal vision of nature and wildlife. Her first quilt. "Oil in the Ocean," expressed her reaction to the effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill on Alaska's wildlife. Experimentation with surface design and color eventually led her to the bright jewel tones of Sea Gardens, her tropical fantasy fish quilts; to the soft pastels of Wild Gardens, her wild flower and bird designs; and to the deep woods green of her forest scenes.

Through her use of color, texture, and design, Sherri's quilts portray nature's peace and tranquility, as well as occasional humor. Her one of a kind and limited edition wall quilts and pillows include patchwork, appliquée, hand dyed and painted fabrics, beading, and embroidery.

Sherri's wall quilts and pillows blend with traditional and contemporary furnishings. At the 1997 Philadelphia Furniture Show, one patron commented that Sherri's exhibit was a soft place of calm in the dazzle of sharp edges.

Sherri Dunbar is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and past president of the Montgomery County Guild of Craftsmen. Her work has been exhibited in the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building, the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen's "Best of Crafts" exhibits, and in New England Quilting Association's " Images '97." Her work may also be found in private collections in the United States, Europe, Japan, and the Philippines.
